Being a member of New York City SHRM has through its wonderful opportunities added to my personal and professional growth. Being part of this community has been an awesome experience.
The impact that being a member of this chapter has had on my career is immeasurable.

New York City SHRM has been integral to my introduction to the profession and my growth as a practitioner. I initially fell into the field and needed to learn the ropes quickly, and NYC SHRM connected me with groups like the Managers’ Forum, where I was able to lean on more experienced professionals for support.
Since then, the chapter has offered me countless opportunities — from assisting with conferences and contributing to the website redesign and management, to learning the ins and outs of sponsorship. I wouldn’t be where I am in my career without this amazing group!

NYC SHRM has been one of the most transformative parts of my professional journey. Through my involvement, I’ve grown tremendously as a leader and gained exposure to executive-level strategy and decision-making. The experience has helped me build confidence in how I show up as an HR professional and expanded my understanding of the broader business impact of our work.
What I value most is the sense of community. NYC SHRM is filled with professionals who genuinely want to see each other succeed. The relationships I’ve built have turned into mentorships, collaborations, and friendships that continue to shape my career. In fact, I was even able to secure my current job opportunity through the organic network I built here, which speaks to how strong and supportive this community truly is. I would absolutely recommend NYC SHRM to others. It’s more than a professional organization—it’s a community that invests in your growth, connects you with industry leaders, and gives you a platform to elevate your voice and career.

Over the past 30+ years I have developed as a Human Resources professional while working primarily at NY City not-for-profit cultural and social service organizations. During that time, I grew from being one organization’s Employment Coordinator (where my responsibilities initially consisted mainly of recruitment and retention) to serving as another organization’s Managing Director, Human Resources. And I also successfully attained my SHRM-SCP certification. During my career I have worked in organizations as small as 120 staff, where I was the sole Human Resources professional. And I have worked at a much larger organization where I oversaw an HR team of 20+.
Throughout my career I have been an active member of NYC SHRM. And through NYC SHRM I have attended many modest-sized meetings, networking events, and larger conferences. I have met many local HR in-house professionals and vendors who have helped me learn about important current hands-on issues, longer-term strategic concepts, and how to best resolve a wide range of critical situations. The NYC SHRM HR professionals are extremely collegial and provide significant information and support. They are a true community. I know that I can call on quite a few of them if I have particular questions or concerns. They recommend vendors and often provide relevant documentation on important topics. I strongly recommend active participation in NYC SHRM to anyone who is pursuing a career in Human Resources.
